Going Gaga Over Bill

Lady Gaga, who is known not only for her music, but for her political and social activism as well, was able to show her political support for the Clintons with her performance at A Decade of Difference.
Lady Gaga always has a few surprises for her fans who come to see her perform. Her performance for Bill Clinton’s ‘Decade of Difference’ was no exception. Although she was performing for government officials, Gaga didn’t let it stop her from censoring her performance as she dropped a few F-bombs and sexual comments during her show.

Reaction to "Bill Romance"

Gaga got her Marilyn Monroe on with a personalized birthday song for the 42nd U.S. president. She slightly altered her song ‘Bad Romance’ by saying, “So tonight I just thought we all would get caught up in a little Bill romance.” The whole Clinton family was overjoyed by this change in the song, and could not help but smile, laugh, and clap for their new favorite artist. She then proceeded to give a full-blown stage show, complete with backup dancers, an elaborate light show, and her signature ‘Bad Romance’ choreography.

The Intersection of Music and Politics

Music and politics collide on various levels. Music can be used to push political agendas. If artists write songs about political and social issues such as lesbian/gay relationships, poverty, or a political party, then these songs become a vehicle for political activism.  If the government was to limit what artists could write and sing about then the music industry would become nothing more than a government controlled broadcast that forces it's listeners to receive a bias message. It is for this reason that the music industry must be free from government control. Thankfully, due to  freedom of speech, artists are able to express their thoughts freely. For example, The Black Eyed Peas were able to point out various issues that they found were wrong with the world, especially in the United States, through their song, "Where is the love?" This song pointed out political and social issues such as racism, poverty, and political secrets. Two other examples are Obamagirl and Iman. Through their songs "Crush on Obama" and
"(OBAMA - Whatever I Like)" these artists were able to show their support of President Obama.
